I'm excited to announce that thejdm is now updated to the latest phpbb 3.2 software. You may notice the site is now mobile friendly but with the upgrade comes some hiccups. theGarage, theGallery, theArcade are no longer supported. In due time the developers should be working to release the modifications to work on the new software. #LetsMakeForumsGreatAgain

E-3, questions about pay structure (attn: urbanracer2000)

Post by kotomile » November 04, 2005

Okay, so upon completion of boot camp (and pending a quick quiz from my recruiter's Captain), I'll be an E-3, or PFC. Do I pull down E-3 pay from day 1 or am I paid as an E-1 until graduation and then bumped straight to E-3? (I'd call my recruiter and ask but I don't want to bug him at home)

Also if anyone can do a better job of a "will return" banner I'd appreciate it :)

you are paid e-3 from day 1, although you do know you dont get your first check till like 1 month after you are officially on "Active duty"

It should be stated in your initial enlistment contract (the rank you enter active duty as). This is what you will be paid as, when you enter basic training.

MAKE YOUR RECRUITER WORK........say your recruiter has 3 recruits ready to join, you being no.3. If he does the paperwork saying you recomended the other 2, this can gain you rank. as it will work for the other 2 guys the same way.

If you take (the army physical fitness test) and pass, it will gain you rank upon entry.

If you have college credit upon entry, this is also a way to gain rank.

[email protected] This is a very good friend of mine who is now recruiting, If you email her just mention my name (Dwight from 4th Infantry Div). She will give you the straight no bullshit answers.

With all being said, most recruiters are lazy and just want you to join, so they make their numbers. Remember, THEY NEED YOU, and should do everything in their power to get you what you want.

Oh, and anything you sign does not mean shit until the day you leave for basic training and you do the "swearing in ceromony"

Hope this helps :D

Ater basic training, how are you going to see your recruiter and Captain to take this test?? They should send you directly to AIT. Read the contract very carefully, this is what decides your rights.

I can not stress this enough, ask him to show you your (entry PAY GRADE, MOS, any BONUS and length of enlistment) before you sign anything

I've seen everything, I've already sworn in, and I talk to the Captain on Monday for my quiz for the promo to E-3. I've already taken and passed the PT test to graduate basic (for my age bracket it's 40 pushups in 2 min., 52 situps in 2 min., and 2 miles in 16:00 or under) , which was half of the E-3 promo. I got to E-2 by having taken a year of JROTC in high school. As soon as I talk with the Captain (Monday, before I leave for basic), we will go to meps to amend the contract. I just want to know if I'll get my E-3 pay straight away or if I'll be paid as an E-1 until after basic, which it seems will work in my favor. Do I really get no pay until after AIT?

Sorry I wasn't more clear on the captain thing, reading it again I see how it sounded like I wasn't going to talk to him until after basic. I have college credit, but it's getting me a few more $ on my bonus. :)

like i said you will get e-3 from day one as long as thats what your contract says, if your contract says e-2 now which you said it does and you do not change it you will get e-2 from day one.

Right now it says E-1 but we're changing that before I ship out.

Banzai - I weigh a lot more than you so 40 pushups for me is a bigger deal :P

ouch E-1? damn but jumping from e-1 to e-3 is a decent boost in pay, before i was disqualified from the air force (due to my knee surgery) i was sittin at e-2 i was going to take the DLAB again (the fucking wierdest test i ever took) so i could land the job as an interpretor and get a 10k signing bonus but oh well

Yep, JROTC = E-2 and Task sheet + PT test = E-3

I haven't taken the DLAB yet but I did ok on the ASVAB and I've been told that since I'm going intel I'll have to take the DLAB.
