I'm excited to announce that thejdm is now updated to the latest phpbb 3.2 software. You may notice the site is now mobile friendly but with the upgrade comes some hiccups. theGarage, theGallery, theArcade are no longer supported. In due time the developers should be working to release the modifications to work on the new software. #LetsMakeForumsGreatAgain

Koni install...Cutting stock housing...? *help*

Post by Cascino » July 07, 2005

Has anyone ever had to cut 40mm off of your stock strut housing to get the Konis to fit?

yeah i agree with tommy but your not going to be able to get ahold of knepper no more thanks to his 10+ 'hi' posts he is gone. i dunno what his deal is..

i never heard of cutting a strut before and honestly that dont sound right at all koni makes parts that are direct plug and play. if it involves cutting a strut or spring or anything of the sort i think you got a wrong part. expecially if it says 40MM and not like... 1/4 inch or something.

I never heard of cutting them. I wouldn't actually. As far as I know Knepper is still on stock anyhow. Just springs. For the reason that no one had struts made for the car at the time.

The Koni's are inserts for the original housing.... and are over priced as well for what you get. I've had Both Koni's and Tokico's and the later are much better IMO. Plus the Tokico's in this application come with the complete assembly brand new. You do have to cut/grind/dig out the factory cartridge. Send them back and buy tokico's. I have a lot of experience in EM chassis and used tokicos on them, very nice.
My car is cleaner than your ass.

yes that is right about cutting the strut housing. I know someone that did it and said its a big hassel and they have the tendency to rattle around once you drop the kponi down inside the stock strut housing. you must do this because koni didnt make the struts with a control arm(?) the arm thing that conects to your tie tod end, therfore having to use the stock. make sure you measure twice and only cut once because you dont wanna fuck it up.
