I'm the mod of the Impreza section on automotiveforums.com and an admin on ARImport.com where I get to select the mods... Basically it's based on helpfulness, knowledge, and being a positive influence. I know on AF they don't make people mods who ask for it, as those people usually just want it for the title. And you will not be a mod if you're just plain an ass, no matter how much you know. If you just be the best member you can, someday you might get that PM "hey, would you like to be a mod", or if you're like me on AF you wake up one day, log in, look at your member title and "What the hell, I'm a mod? When did that happen?"
