I'm excited to announce that thejdm is now updated to the latest phpbb 3.2 software. You may notice the site is now mobile friendly but with the upgrade comes some hiccups. theGarage, theGallery, theArcade are no longer supported. In due time the developers should be working to release the modifications to work on the new software. #LetsMakeForumsGreatAgain

need help !!!

Post by blingin' civic » March 03, 2004

does anyone know how to clean the type r seats? they are the alcantra suede or whatever it is.

I just got in a set of JDM 4dr ITR Rear seats and they are dirty as fuck. I want to be able to clean them up without making them look like crap. Anything i can just use by hand at all? or would i have to take them somewhere to get steam cleaned?

also one of the bottom side bolsters is a little pushed in. Any thoughts on how to correct that also, or am i screwed with that?

thanks alot guys. :)

some pics of the seats? are they like dirt? or is it like oily/greasy type stains? if they are oily spread some baby powder on the seats and let it sit. the babypowder will soak up alot of the stuff in about 24 hours then just use a vac. and suck it all off. if its like dirt dire. use some resolve carpet cleaner.

[im sending this to the car care section]

ok, thanks for the tips!

most of it is just dirt i think which i can vacuum up for the most part, but there are a few spots that look like stains to me. So the baby powder doesnt harm the seats at all?

Is there any other suggestions if the powders and vacuum dont work? Get it steam cleaned somewhere or something?

Is that Resolve cleaner a powder or spray?

Check out this article and/or use the info below:

http://www.bettercarcare.com/articles.php?articleId=11

What you will need
-Hi-power vacuum
-Carpet Extractor (Small Bissel Cleaner or something of the sort)
-Shout Oxy Power
-2 Gal Bucket
-Medium Bristled Nylon Brush

What to do
-Vacuum out the upholstery or carpet
-Mix in the 2 gal bucket: 2 scoops of Shout Oxy Power and the rest with warm/hot water
-Stir it up with the brush and let it sit for 5 mins for the product to saturate into the water
-Proceed to then scrub the solution into the carpet. You will see the solution saturated into the carpet. Just scrub the solution in and work to your next area.
-When the entire area is saturated, begin where you begun scrubbing the first section. Proceed to extract the water solution out of the carpets/upholstery.
-Let it all dry and Voila!

Notes

-I say use a carpet extractor, but you can use a Wet/Dry Vac to suck out the solution. A bissel extractor works better though. Do your research, I am sure there is something at Wal-Mart that will work well. However, make sure you can get it into tight spaces.
-Repeat if necessary. For deep stains, just apply the solution and let it sit for about 20 mins.

Now, as far as the seats, the inside is a nylon mesh and the outside is alcantara. What I would do with those is use a woolite water mixture of 8 parts water, 1 part Woolite in a spray bottle. Spray it on a terry towel and work it into the fabrics.

wow, thanks for the link and explanation. I actually used to detail cars for a few years and know for the most part on how to clean interiors. But, i am not familiar with cleaning Type R seats with this kind of fabric. I just dont want to use some chemical and have the alcantara change the way it feels. I dont want it to get rough or anthing. Othewise i would just take some carpet cleaner and a rag or brush and go to town on it, but i am scared to ruin the seats material.

I will just have to vacuum it and try some stuff out and see what happens. Hopefully tomorrow morning i will have a change to play with it a little.

thanks.

just wanted to say thanks for the suggestions guys. I finally got those things cleaned this weekend... at least as good as they will probably get. I got my hands on a extractor over the weekend and was able to clean them up pretty good. The back piece turned out perfect, and the bottom piece turned out really good with an exception to a couple little marks still there. Overall i am happy.

thanks again.

i dont have after pics yet, but i can get some. I have before pics which i took right away cause i was really pissed when i got them cause of the condition, which i sent to the place i got them from to complain. They are alot better than they were , but they are not perfect which sucks. There is actually a small burn hole in the back piece that i wont be able to do anything about. :*( And i waited like 4 months for these stupid seats.

anyway.... i will try to get some pics this weekend. I am going to try to start installing them in my car this weekend also, i am going to have to do some modifications to the back peice to fit though... we'll see.
