I'm excited to announce that thejdm is now updated to the latest phpbb 3.2 software. You may notice the site is now mobile friendly but with the upgrade comes some hiccups. theGarage, theGallery, theArcade are no longer supported. In due time the developers should be working to release the modifications to work on the new software. #LetsMakeForumsGreatAgain

Post by 93ludeSi » February 11, 2008

Just got hooked up with a H22 head and picking it up this weekend. Gonna use this to pretty much gather info and keep everyone updated on the build and hopefully have it ready for this spring

Will update this weekend when i pick it up and start making a part list :llama:

PS, Thanks to Billy(EK29K) for the hookup

Ahh. Let me know how this goes. It's still up in the air as to what I'm going to do with mine, this is one of the considerations.
USDM or JDM head?

So my first major part im on the lookout for is a P72 ECU. the P13 and 14 arent compatible with Hondata and i really want to run hondata for the tuning ability. Other option is just finding a p13 and just running a VAFC instead of S200/300

doesnt really matter which head, jdm just has better cam setup but i plan on running aftermarket internals so not really worried about having a JDM or not. Also good luck trying to find just a JDM head, I've only seen whole engines and even if you could find a JDM head it would probally be overpriced anyways...

ECU i dont really need, more of a want, H23 is basically same harness just without Vtec wires so all i need is to wire them (2 wires) and get the VAFC. would save money doing that route but we'll see, maybe do that for now just to get it on then down the road do the hondata. DYNO's of this build show 200hp and 160tq at the wheels with stock setup with 140 tq starting at only 2k rpm:o looking forward to seeing how this things drives.

Part list taken from honda tech...

1. VTEC head, complete: cams, gears, rockers, valve cover.

2. VTEC timing belt- VTEC has more teeth on the belt than the Si does.

3. VTEC water pump.

4. VTEC auto hydraulic tensioner for timing belt.

5. VTEC manual tensioner.

6. VTEC head gasket.

7. VTEC lower, most inner crankshaft pulley; ('96 is different due to sensors!!!).

8. VTEC intake manifold ('96, throttle body has sensors which you need to use).

9. VTEC exhaust manifold - i couldnt find a used downpipe, dealer was $621, so i bought DC Headers-VTEC.

10. VTEC ECU/ECM.

11. VTEC spark plugs and wires.

12. VTEC water pump pipe (black pipe that runs behind the head from the water pump to thermostat housing.

13. VTEC injectors - if you don't change these over, then once you plug in the ECU/ECM you will keep blowing the 'EAT ECU' fuse when you crank/start the car.

*DISTRIBUTOR was the same so it did not need to be changed - double checked part numbers.

*VTEC controller - not required but could be used if you dont buy a new ECU/ECM and have a way to bypass your redline.

Basic Parts List and where i should be able to get them if i dont get them used somewhere. Obviously some i will buy new...

1. H22 Timing Belt (Honda Dealer-$50.73)
2. H22 Water Pump (Honda-$59.62)
3. H22 Spark Plugs/Wires (NGK-$30/$51.83)
4. H22 Head Gasket (Honda-$57.63)
5. H22 Injectors (Dealer/aftermarket ??)
6. H22 Exhaust Manifold (ebay-$50 [just to get it running])
7. H22 Water Pipe (Honda-$26.72)
8. H22 crank gear(touches timing belt) (Honda-$16-35[not 100% sure of which one, but 90% sure its the $35 one])
9. VAFC

Honda part prices taken from... http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/aut ... &catcgry5=

Optional/Suggested/Wanted
1. H22 Pistons (higher Compression for NA build)
2. H22 Crank (Stil undecided, heard H22 are balanced and forged and that the H23 isnt, depending on what i do to modify the top end i might/might not do this)
3. Cams/Cam Gears/Retainers/Springs (Crower/Skunk2)
4. P72 w/ hondata
5. Intake Manifold (JHP has a Blox Combo Set with IM, TB and hondata IM gasket for like $400)
6. Oil Squirters (insurance, but without beating on it should be fine without)

SO, time to start pricing parts. build might be put off til summer considering i need to do my suspension and have been wanting wheels the past 2 years. Optional parts are what i want to do when i build this engine but might slap it together for this summer drive it then take it apart next winter, we'll see what happens when i get some prices for parts...
