I'm excited to announce that thejdm is now updated to the latest phpbb 3.2 software. You may notice the site is now mobile friendly but with the upgrade comes some hiccups. theGarage, theGallery, theArcade are no longer supported. In due time the developers should be working to release the modifications to work on the new software. #LetsMakeForumsGreatAgain

how do you convince your parents......
how do you convince your parents to let you put a greddy turbo on your car.... my parenets only fit is the warrenty deally.... my mom insisted on gettin an extended warrenty, and she says i cant drop it untill the car is fully payed off. but i have moeny for a turbo (greddy) and i wanna put it on my car ... i told her that the warrrenty wont be void unless they can PROVE that the turbo was the cause of the malfuncion, but shes anal and wants it in writing, then she thows" talk to your father" at me, and he loaths the very thought of modifying a "perfectly fine new car". when i lowered the car, i couldnt tell him, and he eventuall asked me why i lowered it, i told him to make it handle and look better, all he had to say is, "it had a perfectly fine, working pair of springs from the factorY" he cant understand why anyone would modify their car. Trying to explain to him why i am adding a turbocharger would make him flip, so.. im gonna just not tell him... so does anyone have any convincing that i could do to make my mother see that the greddy kit is perfectly safe for my engine, and that unless i downshift into 1st gear when im goin 80 on the highway myengine will be fine? anyone boosting have any problems yet regarding the warrenty?
and imput would be fine, if i was just one year older( 18 ) and had away better job, i would have the car payed off, and a turbo on there in no time, but since im just a small little "child" my parents dont think that i own the car, even tho i have payed every cent for it up to date, they still think that they own the car or something... parents suck...

Well... it's NOT perfectly safe
Adding any significant amount of power will decrease reliability. Plus forced induction on a car not designed for it is a headache waiting to happen. Don't think you're just gonna bolt a turbo kit on and forget about it. You'll have problems sometime or another. When you mod a car significantly enough, or race it enough (it doesn't even have to be both!) something WILL break sooner or later. As the saying goes - "If you're not breaking stuff, you're not making enough power".
And you're not gonna be able to take it off for warranty work. They'll know what's up. you're gonna have all kinds of extra holes and mounting brackets and oil lines and stuff, they're not stupid. That's dirty anyways, be a man, don't try to make them pay for your mistakes. You gotta pay to play.
And to answer your question, I bought my own car.

Or just take that cash for the Greddy kit ($3000 or so?) and throw it on the bank book for the car. That's a nice chunk on the car. I mean, if you're not allowed to put the turbo on now...why not pay off the car, make your mom happy, and throw the turbo on and grenade the motor?

My mom just shakes her head every time I tell her I did something else to the car. The best was when the UPS guy was coming to the house every day for a week. "Justin, what the hell is being delivered now?" "What? I just got paid. Better than buying drugs, right?"
Pay off your car...make mommy happy.

Take that money and put it away, and save up for all the other parts associated with FI setup, get a really good stand alone engine management system, boost, egt, oil pressure, oil temp gauges, then maybe save up and get some new slugs/rods and cams, so when the car gets paid off, you have everything to make an insane boosted monster
That, or tell them it will make your car get better gas mileage or something LOL

Yeah, if nothing else, even if the mechanics can't SEE the turbo, the computer will tell them what's up, you really can't hide it.
I am pretty lucky, my mom thinks me hooking up my car is pretty cool, and always asks what the new stuff I get does and how it will help my set up.
You COULD always tell your mom that the Greddy kit still passes emissions- I think it does, anyone, correct me if I am wrong- and it IS street legal.... LOL. I am a boost addict, so I can't say to just pay the $3000 toward the car, but at the same time, you have to constantly monitor the car, ALL over, or else you can and probably will have problems (even if they are small..)
GOOD LUCK!
