I'm excited to announce that thejdm is now updated to the latest phpbb 3.2 software. You may notice the site is now mobile friendly but with the upgrade comes some hiccups. theGarage, theGallery, theArcade are no longer supported. In due time the developers should be working to release the modifications to work on the new software. #LetsMakeForumsGreatAgain

check engine light sorrows

Post by 30stones » August 20, 2007

So the other day my check engine light came on. I pulled over checked over everything nothing looked wrong. The car ran and idled fine. I didn't have anything to bridge it with so i just shut the car off and turned it back on and no check engine light. About 4 days later it came back on this time i had a paper clip so i bridged the plug and when i did that the check engine light would just go out. Once again i shut the car off started it back up and no check engine light and hasnt came on since tonight and it did the same exact thing. Car runs and idles fine. A/F is good car seems to run perfect. I'm just stumped on what it could be that's causing this. Never had this problem before. Something with hondata??? I don't know.....

boggles my mind too... only thing i could think is there's a loose wire in a plug or something and it just happens to get rattled around and shows a bad connection or something.... other than that i really have no idea.

sounds like it could be an evap concern. if u have a small leak in the system or a problem with the canistervent solenoid or the vapor management valve it may take a while to set a code. but if it does set a continuos code it should be stored and the light should be on all the time. the best thing to do would be to eec test it when the code comes on. leave it running and see whuts in the ecm

Mine does kind of the same thing. Some days it's on and some days its off. When it is on it does throw a code but it goes out by its self without clearing the code. I've been trying to figure it out for quite some time but I'm not having any luck. The code it throws is an idle code and the car does idle funny quite a bit but but i replaced all the sensors and plugged all the vaccume leaks so I have no idea anymore.

You're on Hondata S200, right? Mine does it all of the time if I'm just cruising along at highway speeds and partial throttle...if I floor it, then a few seconds later it'll come on. No performance loss, though. It's just a glitch in Hondata is what I was told.

I freaked the first time and called Eric immediately afterwards. haha.

im running S300....i turned the car on today without a check engine light. So i looped the plug just to see if maybe the ecu still had it stored cuz i havent reset it yet but the check engine light would just come up but wouldnt flash/blink when it was looped. If there is something wrong i cant find out cuz it wont read it. I'm clueless

if the light just stayed solid the whole time, this is an indication of a faulty ECU. Although, since you arent experiencing excessive issues, i would say you may want to make sure your gas cap is on tight (this can cause codes believe it or not), also, there was an issue with the DA integras (not that you have one) but it was the same crap, an elisuve code, i cant remember off the top of my head what it was related to, but what i do remember was that it was a pain to fix. anywho, if you can, see if you can swap out your ECU for a known good ECU and go from there.
