I'm excited to announce that thejdm is now updated to the latest phpbb 3.2 software. You may notice the site is now mobile friendly but with the upgrade comes some hiccups. theGarage, theGallery, theArcade are no longer supported. In due time the developers should be working to release the modifications to work on the new software. #LetsMakeForumsGreatAgain

Need some feedback on crossmembers

Post by problem_si » August 24, 2006

Hi guys...

I'm getting ready to buy another Si in about a week or so, and it's missing the crossmember.

The guy I'm buying it from had a JimFab unit, but sold it while he was parting out the engine and stuff. I had already planned on an crossmember upgrade. Since the car is missing, might as well upgrade now.

I emailed JimFab's website, and someone replied saying that no production is planned for any more crossmembers. He went on to recommend a "full race" crossmember.

I just want to know what crossmember you guys are using, and any experience (pos or neg) you've had with them.

I'm getting a Full Race. No real reason other than JimFab isn't making anything.

Does anyone actually HAVE one???

Says on the website you can't use your stock radiator, but very conveniantly you can buy theirs that WILL fit for the low low price of $329.00!!!

Well, that's not entirely accurate. It says, you CAN use your factory radiator, but it won't fit under your hood without being "angled back".

"Use these traction bars along with our custom designed 88-91 Civic/CRX radiator for a professional looking install."
Image As much as I love zip ties....that doesn't look very "professional" to me.

Are there any other better units than this full-race one? Preferably one that allows a stock sized radiator that is held in place at BOTH ends

Looks like something you'd see on a DSM.

BUMP

yea, I love zip ties just like the next guy, duct tape too. But this project will not be "problem si" and will get only the best parts and service. So...with that said...

Does anyone have one of these????

the dsm ties aren't necesary. it fits fine. the only issue i ran into on the install was the radiator cap interferes with the upper bracket. i had to trim the upper bracket back so it wouldn't rub on the pwr radiator.

stock if you are just going to run a stock setup
jimfab if you are going to run a stock radiator and want/need traction bars
z10 is junk
fullrace if you are going boosted and are going to do a setup similar to what we are doing to this car (my old car now owned by a friend/customer)

Is that the full-race pwr pictured there? Why the hell have I seen like 3 different versions of this. Theres yours (rad cap on the left), theres the one up about 10 posts (rad cap on the right), then I've seen one with the rad cap on the left and one single mounting nipple smack in the middle like the oem eg rad.

....WTF! :x

lol....anyways, have you tried closing that hood yet? I dont mind triming the t-bracket, but I'll be damned if Im gonna cut into my ZC hood.

Also, what fan is that?

flex a lite fan

hood closes fine. underside edge of the tbraket was filed down to clear the top edge of the fan shroud. if i had set it up as a puller fan it would have absolutely no t bracket issues.
