I'm excited to announce that thejdm is now updated to the latest phpbb 3.2 software. You may notice the site is now mobile friendly but with the upgrade comes some hiccups. theGarage, theGallery, theArcade are no longer supported. In due time the developers should be working to release the modifications to work on the new software. #LetsMakeForumsGreatAgain

I have a feeling that you're going to do great there.

I'll hate to see you leave PA after school if you do, but it'd be awesome to see some of the stuff you crank out. :bang:

well i been takling to past students that went to douglas and went through the savini program... i talked to 2 people and they both said its the biggest waist of money ever... the one person said after school she moved to cali and threw some portfolios together and handed them out at halloween stores. they forwarded the info to the big companies and she landed a job there... she said shes like 2 of the 50 people that work there that went to school... most of the people didnt goto school at all they just threw a portfolio together and got an internship... so she blew thousands for the same treatment someone spent ZERO on.

that sucks soooo bad. i would like to go to brush up on skills but man... all that money.

she also went on to tell me that finding a job is HARD, its a tough buisness to get into and seriously they are not looking for diploma's or anything they are looking at what you can do.

ALSO she went on to tell me that they have a hell of a time keeping teachers at that school, she was there for the course and through the 2 years she had 4 different teachers in the same class! so they would basicly have to start all over again and learn what they learned already when the new teacher came in and she said she has friends there now that are having the same problem.

i was so pumped up to goto this school but now its like im walking into a dead end... if i could just goto cali with a portfolio of things i play around with i bet i could land a job somewhere out there...

to sum this all up she said i could goto the library and find the dick smith, and tom savini prop books and learn everything right from the book page for page.

this sucks :( it kinda makes me sick in the stomach i dunno what to do now.

Man, don't get so down! Does the type of sculptures you've posted look like something you think you could handle? Maybe if you read the books you could put together one schweet portfolio too!

Look on the positive, if you land a job without having spent the money on that school you're that much farther ahead!

School or no school it's all in what you make it. I graduated with people that didn't find a job for YEARS because they didn't market themselves correctly or in the wrong places. Granted, I graduated at a horrible time (two months after 9/11), but even I had multiple interviews.

I thought about it and it seems like the best thing to do to become big is make a name for yourself. Hard to do that under the supervision of someone else. Get the books, study up, make some of your own designs under a business name, and sell them. Push the envelope and see where it takes you. Then getting the degree would just solidify your reputation and give you something to show that you are indeed qualified. Ya know?
