I'm excited to announce that thejdm is now updated to the latest phpbb 3.2 software. You may notice the site is now mobile friendly but with the upgrade comes some hiccups. theGarage, theGallery, theArcade are no longer supported. In due time the developers should be working to release the modifications to work on the new software. #LetsMakeForumsGreatAgain

To Boost or not to Boost
I am deciding on what I should do. Should I boost or go with the k20 of some sort. Car: 2001 Honda Civic EX. Shes got 110000 miles on her now. I was thinking maybe a rebuild with some turbo and a header and intake with hew exhaust. Or I could go with the swap...What do ya'll think?
Time to change my signature....

Sean has a good point there.
But seriously it all comes down to what you want the car to do. You want a clean DD with a different engine, some more power than the usual civic of your vintage. Then do the motor swap.
Or do you want a boosted single cam monster?
Each has its ups and downs. you just need to decide what you really want the car to do.

the cheapest is obviously the a3. it's got enough punch for a dd and trips to the local track. you'll like it compared to your d. the most reasonable is the a2. it's got balls and you'll love the scream of vtec. the most baller is the a. it costs a lot but you'll love everything about it.
i've got an a3 in my ep but i can see myself swapping for an a in the future..if not, turbo.
what turbo are you looking for?

If you want to go "baller" then go with the K. If you want cheaper and faster, go DIY turbo kit on your D. Turboing a D-series can be very cheap depending on your goals. If you're looking for a low or mid range of power gain (not meaning low-mid rpm range), like around 350whp or less; then check out turbod16.com or d-series.org and do a search on aftermarket Suzuki Vitara pistons. They are a much cheaper alternative to other aftermarket pistons.

ok my bad about that part. I know the kits come with those things. I was half asleep when I posted that.Sean @ ESG wrote:a turbo, a header, and an intake?
Is there a certain manufacturer ya'll recommend for Turbo? I kind of like the idea of turbo charging the D17a
What size Turbo do ya'll recommend.
This will be mainly a DD and soon a show car (hopefully).
I dunno Matt, I'm leaning towards the K swap for a few reasons.
First, you'll have 200hp without any FI, and you can add FI later for more
The K will respond better to boost when/if you do boost it (more hp/psi)
As popular as turbo Ds are, the D is an inherently weak engine as standard and cannot handle much boost without being built. By the time you build up a D and pay for the turbo you'd have had a K for around the same ballpark price.
