I'm excited to announce that thejdm is now updated to the latest phpbb 3.2 software. You may notice the site is now mobile friendly but with the upgrade comes some hiccups. theGarage, theGallery, theArcade are no longer supported. In due time the developers should be working to release the modifications to work on the new software. #LetsMakeForumsGreatAgain

I dont see how. I beleive you need to go back and read, perhaps actually comprehend.MagillaGorilla wrote:No im saying if a car is tuned right you have a better chance of it being reliable.
well since i was going to do ls/vtec i did a lot of reading up on it before i went and did it .. the biggest thing i hear people complain about is the reliability of the rod to stroke ratio.. your obviously going to hear bad from some people and good from others.. ive heard just as much good as i heard bad though.. but it seems ..like everyone has said .. if you build it right.. and strong the 1st time and maintain it .. it should be as reliable as any other motor setup..
but hey thats only my 2 cents... there are a lot of views about this topic

hmmm? what a mess. ls/vtec works. real good too. that engine is for the hardcore people only. if going to build a 10:1 compression ls/vtec just buy a gsr. if your BUILDING a motor and not tuning it your retarted. dont be scared of the rod ratio unless your going to drive everywhere at 8000 rpms. imo bigger bore is better than stroke for our engines, but ls stroke is not much more than the b18c. it all depends on what you want. don't go ls/vtec thinking your going to save $.
let me add, it's a costly buildup when done the right way. Oil squirters and girdle should be highly considered to improve the reliablilty of lsvtec motors. My buildup cost me roughly $2500 /w a stock cylinder head @ 12.3:1 c.r. I still have to do valve springs, retainers and cams. I am very impressed with my setup, it makes nice power before vtec and it is torquey as hell. I am hoping to squeeze 220whp and will update you guys as time goes by.

some people are afraid of LS/vtecs because the sound of it intimidates them.. no offense to anyone..
but in reality.. LS/vtecs are pretty good motors.. it just depends on how it's built.. who builds it and how it's tuned..
if you don't want something high maintenance.. i'd suggest you get a ls/vtec w/ gsr pistons and either a b16 head or b18c head. compression won't be high enough to raise concern.. but tuning would be recommended. doing things like resleeving or placing a block guard or upgrading pins and rods or stuff like that is re-enforcement. the motor as is.. given that the internals are in good condition.. will last.. so long as you don't jump on it.
a friend of mine is running a LS-vtec w/ a B16B head and CTR pistons.. w/ a compression somewhere in the 12.3:1 range.. pretty bad ass motor and it runs fine and fast. the only thing he really needs to be concerned about is the octane he puts in his car when he fills up and gaining traction when he launches..

ls/vtecs are just as reliable as any other motor, if built correctly. i work at JDMotorsports down here in miami and we swear by the motor. warren (for hybrids) also works with us and weve put together his motors. ive met few people in this world who could beat the shit out of a car more than this character. his old motor went for a year? and the only reason he had a problem was cause he cracked a piston due to compression (stock b16 pistons). when built correctly these motors run hard and will last. warrens motor saw 9 grand daily. i was gonna go the same route with an ls/vtec, but after some debate and talking things over with my boss, we decided we wanted to do something not many people have done, and were going all motor with an ls. the rod ratio on the motors isnt what you should be worried about. the reason honda limited the ls motor to rev to 7 grand was because the cams stop making power there. same reason you have the difference between the gsr and type r. type r cams make power a little higher than gsr's so they let the motor rev their. sure, they balanced the crank a little better for added security. if they did it for the type r, why cant you and i do it for an ls? food for thought.
