I'm excited to announce that thejdm is now updated to the latest phpbb 3.2 software. You may notice the site is now mobile friendly but with the upgrade comes some hiccups. theGarage, theGallery, theArcade are no longer supported. In due time the developers should be working to release the modifications to work on the new software. #LetsMakeForumsGreatAgain

Removing auto tranny out of a DA?

Post by 98exploda » January 08, 2004

I need to take my auto tranny out so i can get ready to put my manual tranny in and i don't know everything or where stuff is connected. So what do i need to remove? the locations of things would help too? Im about to remove the CV shafts. I've already drained my radiator, pulled the battery, intake, battery tray, 2 ac lines, front wheels, and plastic piece underneith along with everything on the interior that's in the way of the auto shifter which still needs to be dropped out. Anyone know exactly where the starter is at? cuz i need to pull that out too.

EDIT: well i have to wait to buy or borrow a 36 mm bolt cuz i seem to have every bolt size but that 1. I may just have to wait for my friends to come over and help because they have more experiance then me 8)

i think the starter is on the intake side of the motor, and if your looking at your distributor it should be a little farther back and down. thats where it is a on 5 speed trans, not to positive if it is the same.

thanks guys. I finally got the starter out. Both bolts were facing the same direction towards the motor away from the passenger side. I had to buy a swivel socket to get the one on the bottom out and it still took an hour! Now im gonna go check out that how to and see what else i can take off the tranny that won't be to hard to do. I just got my exedy stage 2 clutch kit and type r shift knob in to :-D

I'd take the whole shebang out of the car. It's so easy to remove the tranny when the motor is on the floor.

If I remember correctly there are like five bolts on the tranny towards the motor and two or three (maybe more) facing the tranny. Getting the tranny to slide off of the dowels is going to be a bitch if it's in the car. You also have a few clips to undo.

I think my friend is going to bring his DIGI CAM over today and we are going to take pictures of new parts going into the car for the swap and pictures of the engine bay with how it's all stripped right now. my baby looks so dead right now cuz alot of shit is stripped off. And Chinga that'd be tite if u could make that how to for me. You can e-mail it to me at [email protected] if u want. Here's a list of mods going into this swap.

*Exedy stage 2 clutch kit
*ACT flywheel 12.5lbs
*B&M short shifter
*Type R shift knob
*Type R e-brake boot
*Type R shift boot
*B18A 5 speed tranny
*91 shift linkage w/ es bushings (if the guy ever ships it out :[)
*91 clutch pedal assembly

total amount spent... $952.64

And then i bought JDM 1 piece headlights for 137.50 or something like that off e-bay to replace my stock OEM USDM headlights that got smashed
Still need a CF hood, and a bumper reinforcement then i gotta get my core support straightend.

I'll keep you guyz updated :)
