Post subject:  painting engine bay.

i need help..

i have recently purchased a 92 hatchback.. and am wanting to do a complete color change.

the motor is out.. but the only thing that scares me, is when it comes time to paint the engine bay.. is there a simple or less painful way to paint the firewall instead of taking everything off of it?

im no rocket surgeon, and removing all that carp from the firewall seems a little "out-of-my-league" .. or im just lazy.. one of the two.

can any of you dudes give me a hand.. id appreciate it.

thx, Andrew Image

Why not remove anything that isn't metal (leave brake lines, etc.) and paint over that stuff?

^that would give it a clean look b/c it would kinda hide all those components. or no?

I would just mask off rather than remove stuff.

You should just take your time and do it right.

Otherwise it's going to look like shit.

take your time and remove everything. leave the brake lines and master cylinder, and brake booster there just mask them off. other than that remove everything. because there might just be some rust hidden behind components and that could fuck up your paint job in a year or two...

if thats your car there in that pic, IMO keep it captiva blue, but if you want to change it go ahead...that means 1 less person with captiva blue so my car color is getting rarer(sp?)!!
