Post subject:  Rust Protection?
I live in Wisconsin. In Wisconsin in snows alot. The idiots who run wisconsin decided that salt is a good thing to put on the roads when it snows. Salt erodes your paint. What can you do to if you dont have a 2nd car for winter to prevent it from rusting to all hell?

After you get home from driving around in the snow(salt) you should spray your car with the hose to get most of it off, or you could also wash the fender wells and other parts with large salt build up. I know it sounds like a lot of time every time you get home, but if you love your car that much, you would do it.

not if you park it in the garage. Also depends how cold it is where you live.

hmm, feels about.... -905*F lol, but i plan on moving somewhere warm so ill just let my topaz rust to death and buy a supra when i go some where warm

Tenchu: I go to a DIY car wash every week in the winter. Yes it's true. It hasn't been above freezing where I am in about 15-20 days. Here's what I do...

-Go to the DIY bay and set it up for about 8 mins of time (like $4.50 where I am)
-Start spraying with high pressure water from top to bottom, and spend just as much time on the paint on the underbody and wheel wells (where dirt and salt build up).
-I next then use the 'soap' or 'wax' option on the sprayer and spray the car down from top to bottom as well as the underbody and wheel wells, then continue back to regular water to hose off the 'soap'/'wax'.
-NEVER USE THE BRUSH THERE. It causes scratches and swirls.


If you have something good at home...AKA Pressure washer with warm water...

-Spray down the car like stated above, then pull it in a garage (pick up a portable heater and have it running).
-Soap up the car (with my car wash article) in the garage.
-Pull it out of the garage and spray it down with the warm pressurized water.
-Pull back in the warmed garage and dry off. Make sure you get the door jams really well because they will freeze when they get outside. Also, if you don't have keyless entry, be prepared for your locks to freeze.


This is a basic way to go about it. The answer to your question about rust forming. Rust will only form if it gets above freezing. As long as you keep the surface free of salt and dirt reguarly, you should be ok. I will go into the goodness of Paint Sealants in another post, but keep checking back for new stuff.

Or you could get your car ziebart rustproofed if you are really that worried about it. Kind of a big hit the first time but only around 45 bucks a year there after. Also they will pay for any repairs if the car does rust for some reason. Or you could do what I did and move to Florida. :)

Lol, I would, but it costs WAY to much to move to FL :( Im thinkin AZ or NV tho.
