I'm excited to announce that thejdm is now updated to the latest phpbb 3.2 software. You may notice the site is now mobile friendly but with the upgrade comes some hiccups. theGarage, theGallery, theArcade are no longer supported. In due time the developers should be working to release the modifications to work on the new software. #LetsMakeForumsGreatAgain

Budget Builder
Well since it came up in another thread and was off topic, .Saint said that there should be a "budget builder" thread, so here it is.
so what do you guy think, is it wrong to build on a budget? Should you only buy legit parts?
Personally i think that yeah legit parts are cool and all but not everyone can afford them. i feel that if its done right and looks clean, regardless of the kind of parts used(legit or knock) then it can be a nice car. For example, when it comes to wheels i dont really see what the big deal is if someone gets rotas or if they get top dollar wheels, if they like how they look then whatever...

i dont like knock parts because they are profiting off other peoples designs. what if you were an artist and you drew a masterpiece and some1 came along and doodled the same painting and sold it for less of lesser quality and it sold like hotcakes. knock parts are killing the industry.
im not saying its wrong to 'build on a budget' im saying its wrong to fuel the fire of the companies that are making a profit off other peoples blood sweat and tears. you can still 'build on a budget' and get away with some sick genuine parts. buy used or make trades.
its one thing to say 'i need rims, oh and an exhaust, and some headlights, oh yeah and i need a wing, ah damn cant forget about a lip or bumper' well attack that list 1 part @ a time. so it might take you a year to finally get all those parts. budget builders want there cars to be 'complete' the second they start on it. so they cut corners and buy the junk thats killing the industry. look @ a magazine car, look @ a nascar, look @ a circuit car, look @ the honda challenge cars. they run legit parts because there is R&D on the parts and they know how legit they are. rota dont have an R&D team rota copies wheels and makes money. same goes with most if not all of the other companies manufacturing the parts. the big name companies like Spoon, Volk, Advan, J's price there parts according to the R&D time, the name obviously and the material used to make the product.
you stated in a previous thread your dad wouldn't cut corners with his muscle cars and he has been building them for yearssss. well your dad runs a household, works his ass off and still has time to play with his toys and builds his car on the side. like i stated it might take a lil longer then expected but his smile is bigger when he see's the legit parts get put on.
save your money. PERIOD.

yeah i definatly see where your coming from. going with the legit parts would be the best way but i sometimes feel like your paying for the name more than the part. maybe i just look at like this, my car is a daily driver no matter what and i dont see putting a load of money into a top dollar lip or bumper when i know its gonna take wear and tear and has a good possiblitly of breaking. i guess i just feel better know that if i would break a lip i didnt dump $300 into the lip.
i guess that some people just want instant gradification and do so buy getting knock off parts cause they can get them cheap and fast. i myself have a hard time breaking down and spending money so when i dish out the cash i try to make it worth it.
As far as my dad goes, he's been working on that car for a while now, but he also had a bit of restoring to do. he pulled the car out of a barn and it was sunk in mud the whole way up to the rocker panels. and ya know how i said he's anal about things? well he hates undercoating and there is none on that car at all, he scarped every bit of it off and painted the whole bottom. looks absolutly awesome cause its so clean. he has a lot of time in the car, and good parts and everything. he has spent the money to have the motor built and used good parts buuutttt....he hardly ever drives it. yes he does drive it to shows and want not and maybe for a short cruise here and there but other then that it sits, so i can see why he doesnt care to but the money into when he can because he hardly drives it.

Here's my .02
I don't like knockoff parts as a whole. I think it's stupid for a car to get the same credit with knockoff parts as a car with totally legit parts. I'm also not against budget builds either. My major beef with knockoff parts is passing them off as the real deal. I had rotas on my car. I actually had two sets. When I had slipstreams I intentionally bought silver because I wasn't going to pass them off as anything else. They were blatantly Rota. I just put my money everywhere else and needed 7" wide wheels. They did their job till I got the wheels I wanted.
Cliffnotes: Don't fake the funk.

Honestly fake parts have allowed more people to be in the game than if there were no fake parts. But that is no excuse. I would rather see a car with only a few parts, but they were legit, than the guy with fake rims, fake body kit, cheap paint, and maybe one legit part. I say get the real stuff, even if it takes you forever to do it.
Plus more and more now people are like, check my mugen rims, when they are rollin $350 rotas. We would totally call them on it, but sometimes other people don't know. Plus fake parts are getting people who just don't know any better. There is a kid in my barracks here with an s2k. He blew a headlight and decided that he would buy the one off of eBay cause it said JDM, instead of the actual Honda headlight from the dealership that was more than the $10 "JDM" light. He got the light and since it was fake crap made in china it blew his lighting system, the whole smash. Cheap part overloaded the fuses. Now he has to pay alot more to fix alot of things instead of just getting the right part.
The other thing... Cheaper means cheap. Some many people are rolling around with subpar rims and suspension. Instead of buying legit, mugen, spoon, tein, blitz, etc etc. they are buying fake stuff and putting on their cars. Then they think they got hot shit and end up tearing up their cars, or worse getting into accidents cause the cheap suspension they bought wasn't meant to take a freeway on ramp at 75mph....
Fake is not cool. I am building on a budget, I only have a few things on my car, nothing big, but everything I have is real JDM, or just real in general. It may take a while, but one day there will be a thread on here about my Work equip 01s, or my Tein suspension. Then when it is finished I will much more proud of it than if I buy fake eBay parts sooner.
Just my opinion... I could be wrong.
