| Post subject: | new project- '87 toyota supra |
i might be starting a new project sometime soon, but im beginning to have some doubts about it.... my brother has an 87 supra that just sits and he isnt going to do anything with it. the only thing thats wrong with it is the engine, it doesnt run, but the transmission is great. i was going to buy it off of him and drop a new or remanufactured engine into it just to get the thing running again but thats when i began to doubt the whole project, i new that i wouldnt want to stop at just putting a new engine into it, i started thinking about upgrading the turbo, doing flowwork, engine management things and so on and so forth... i new that before i would even start that this project would suck me into it and i would never want to stop doing things to the car, (even though its older it is a supra after all!) so now i dont know if i should even start the project at all now because if i did, i wouldnt have time for friends, eating, sleeping and other essential things in life.... so what should i do, or what are your opinions? oh, and sorry about the long post! |

I don't think you could ever go wrong with a project that you really want to do, because if you don't do it then you'll regret it. Even if you'd regret the project 3/4 of the way through...at least you did it. Any pics of the car? |

Please do it. I love the MKIII Supra (86.5-92) and I am going to get one real soon, I would love to see what you do with it http://www.supraforums.com <-- Lots of assholes there, and ricers, but you can get some good info on engine swaps there. |

well, the project is going to be postponed until the summer now, cause all of the sudden, my brother wants to work on the car as well. i guess that will be good though, more help and more money to put into the car! and once the thing is up and running, we want to shoot for somewhere around 350-400 hp(at the wheels) but still keep it able to be driven nicely on the street, i guess it will be fine for the street, but i wont know until it actually gets there... but the main concern right now is just to get the car running again and work any bugs out of it before we start tuning... so dont quote me on those hp numbers just yet! they are only an estimate of what we want out of it! hopefully we'll be able to come through with making that much, but until then, ill just update this whenever something else happens with the car! |

EXACTLY! When I first registered there I asked if it was possible to swap a 2JZ into an MKIII and the first reply was "Oh great...another newbie." Then the next asshole said "SEARCH!" ... basically...i got no help, but searching worked in the long run, lol |

and now the fun begins!!! its finally time to get the car ready before we pull the engine... we are taking it to his one friends shop to do all of the work on it (he has an extra bay that he is letting us use for however long we need still waiting is the approval of my brother to start ordering parts for it, he doesnt want to get anything yet until they pinpoint all the problems.... good reasoning enough so like i said before, ill just keep updating this whenever i find anything out, and ill try to get the pictures up i took the other day! |
