I'm excited to announce that thejdm is now updated to the latest phpbb 3.2 software. You may notice the site is now mobile friendly but with the upgrade comes some hiccups. theGarage, theGallery, theArcade are no longer supported. In due time the developers should be working to release the modifications to work on the new software. #LetsMakeForumsGreatAgain

December 13th 2007 [phpbb3 gold release]
As some of you already know the talks of switching forum software has been running through my mind. The phpBB3 software i am testing right now is still in beta testing and is not stable enough to run live. i have been testing and playing with the software for about a month now.
Today, December 9th, its the phpBB software's 7th birthday and they are proud to announce the release date of the phpBB3 Gold software! December 13th 2007 will mark the day that the stable version of phpBB3 will be released.
im going to try and answer some questions you might have about the switch. if you have anymore questions please please please ask and answer them.
whats the reason for the switch? (again)
some of the OG forum members probably remember that we started this site running the phpBB software and later on switched over to vBulletin due to some stability issues. After purchasing the vBulletin software i was very pleased with the software and we continued to use it. After the first year with the software i dont think anyone had any complaints untill we got our first update email. vBulletin charges there users $100 a year to make the crutial software security updates. So ontop of the $160 vB license Munster bought they want us to pay $100 a year ontop of that to keep the software up to date and secure.
phpBB software is free. the software, the updates, the modifications, all free. The software is also Open Source, meaning, when you want to update the software or add a modification or anything to the software you do so by editing the actual software code. with vBulletin everything is automatic and that leads to some modification and software update conflicts. If a modification 2 needs line 1 of code to complete the modification but modification 1 is using line 1 then the modification wont work properly. But with the use of Open Source and the new MODX features in the new phpBB3 software plugging in security fixes and modifications is alot more reliable. (in my eyes)
whats this mean for us, thejdm members?
mass confusion and nightmares. I'm kidding, but with the new software will come some confusion and will come some downtime while the conversion is made. I will not be converting the software on Dec 13th. i will be updating my current RC build of phpBB3 with the gold version and working my ass off on getting the software to where i want it before releasing it live. I hope to have the new launch before the holidays but i cant promise anything. I had a few members beta testing the software and i really thing everyone is going to like the new site.
i want to make it aware, with the new move/conversion topics, forums, and posts will not all be lost. with the conversion comes some drawbacks, downtime and some missing threads are to be expected. when i say conversion im talking about the entire thejdm.com database, all the saved and stored messages, post counts, and posts over the entire vBulletin database will be backed up and stored as well and converted to work with the new phpBB software
what kind of new things/features can we expect?
there is going to be alot of new features and things on the new software you can look forward to and im also going to be brining back alot of the old features from the original board that alot of us miss. im not going to run through everything that will be added but i will tell you the list of new features are very promising and will bring a smile to all the members faces and there will be alot of new features for our advertisers and sponcers.
the layout itself will be a new feature, bringing to thejdm will be a 'bloggish' style layout where everything will be reversed. reversed? you might say, that seems difficult, or confusing? actually from the beta testers they all seem to like it and its so simple to navigate. as strange as it may sound it only takes a day or so to get used to the new layout.
also the new user control panel will really put a smile on your face. its so simple to use, everything on the new software uses tabs for quick navigation and a boat load of new features! a new friends list you can manage from the control panel as well as a foe's list, ignore feature.
for the moderators, there is a new moderator control panel that is so simple to use with its tabbed menu's so making a fix to a thread, moving a thread, editing a thread, deleting a thread will be a snap.
thread bookmarks are also a new feature added to the lineup. ever looked at a thread and you found it very helpful you wanted to hang onto it for later? or a thread with a bunch of photo's you wanted to keep an eye on for refrence when building your car? then when it comes time to needed that thread you find yourself searching all over the place to try and find it again. now you can just bookmark it. return to your UCP and fetch it.
organization is another big one. i plan on adding/removing some new or old forums that i feel could use it to clean up the main forum. some of the not-so-used forums will be getting moved and combined with others to clean up the forum a bit.
the new version of phpBB is packed to the seams with out of the box features and with the development and mod team working on security fixes and modifications daily the software should be quite impressive once its running stable and live. stay tuned!

the new thejdm.com v3.0.0 will now have a main dashboard/portal for display all the recent happenings on the site. such as events, recent posts, newest members, top posters, friends, site stats, a new calendar, all sorts of features!!
i am also working on a nice ride of the month setup! winners of rotm will get headlined on the dashboard with a link to the feature, as well as a desktop wallpaper for the month, and grace the sites banner!
also im trying my best at coding a lightbox set of posted images! so when a user posts an image and it is resized down to fit the screen instead of clicking each picture and bringing them up in new windows a lightbox will open letting you scroll through each image like a gallery!!!
speaking of gallery, one is in development for the new jdm! whats this mean?! site donators will have X amount of MB storage space on the server, allowing you to upload images directly to the site instead of using hotlinking from other sites like photobucket & flickr.
the new thejdm is going to be pretty impressive with a HUGE lineup of features and the new speeds of the software will really put us on top.
