I'm excited to announce that thejdm is now updated to the latest phpbb 3.2 software. You may notice the site is now mobile friendly but with the upgrade comes some hiccups. theGarage, theGallery, theArcade are no longer supported. In due time the developers should be working to release the modifications to work on the new software. #LetsMakeForumsGreatAgain

B18B swap help
So i want to replace my D16 with a B18B1 in my 97 EX. I need some help with knowing what all I am gooing to need to complete the swap correctly. I plan on boosting it so if that has an effect on what i need for the initial swap please let me know.
So obviously i'm going to need the motor, trans, axles, and mounts. Am i going to need to swap wiring harnesses?
Any help would be great, Thanks

Re: B18B swap help
so I need to swap the whole harness? I've had people say yes and people say no. If i do need to swap the whole harness, why must i do so?
Re: B18B swap help
Keep your stock harness. Depending upon what year motor you get will determine if you need to swap any distributor pieces. That's after getting the actual motor, though. If you get an obd2 motor then you won't have to deal with the different sensor plugs and injector plugs, etc. Even better if you get an obd2a then you won't have to deal with swapping distributor guts...that's simple, though.
To get it into the car you'll need the motor, tranny, shift linkage, axles, etc. Then you need to get the drivers side cast mount that attaches to the block from a 99-00 SI and the rear L mount from an Si. Just order it from hondaautomotiveparts.com

Re: B18B swap help
any suggestions as to what year range for the motor to try and get? which is better?
Re: B18B swap help
Better isn't the thing. If you can find an obd2 it would just make it easier for ya as far as wires/plugs/etc.
Just throw a jumper harness on and run an obd1 ecu then.

Re: B18B swap help
If you care at all to do a "legal" swap the engine must be the same year or newer than the original motor that came in the car. Most inspection stations do not go nutso over this, just an FYI
Re: B18B swap help
Yeah. I would do an Obd2 swap just because if our counties come around to plug in emission...you'll be good w/ the obd2 ecu.
