I'm excited to announce that thejdm is now updated to the latest phpbb 3.2 software. You may notice the site is now mobile friendly but with the upgrade comes some hiccups. theGarage, theGallery, theArcade are no longer supported. In due time the developers should be working to release the modifications to work on the new software. #LetsMakeForumsGreatAgain

Is my transmission dead?

Post by tomoyasu » June 24, 2009

well, last time I had my car running it was really hard getting it into gear, and sometimes wouldnt go in at all. It was also making a grinding/squealing sounds when trying to put it gear. when its not running i can put it into all gears fine..dont know if that means anything or not.

Anyways, will i need a new tranny? or just a clutch/flywheel...or something else??

Help is very much appreciated!!

where is NA when you need him? he has all the answers.

sounds like a clutch, u can go in and out of gears w/o even pushing the clutch in when the car is off. if you are getting a lot of grinding putting the car into any gear its usually signs of a clutch gone bad.

$640....just had mine done last week. I'm guess if you went to AAMCO of some place like that it would be quite a bit more.

Yes it is a clutch, But not the disc or pressure plate its the hydraulic or cable actuating system. If its your 1990 civic try tightening up your cable at the transmission end. The clutch cannot cause your transmission to grind unless you have a broken disc or something odd happened. Have you checked your transmission fluid level?

Yes Saint I'm a been there done that kinda guy who doesn't mind turning a wrench, seems to be few and far between on here. But when y'all park it y'all park it hard.

Snap, stock replacement? I would have done it for $100 and parts.

sorry fellas, been a bit busy, but sadly not workin on the car. anyways, i did get a O2 sensor wired up correctly, found a part on the starter that may have been grounding out and i tried to tighten up clutch lever cable as much as i could, but its still not working.

I did get it turning over once, the only thing i did differently was push on the clutch pedal as hard as i could..kept trying it after that and wouldnt turn over anymore. There is also a loud buzzing noise that seems to be coming from the main relay, but again, only sometimes.

My reverse lights are also always on whenever the key is turned...not really sure where to look other than the fuses or the tail light housing.
