I'm excited to announce that thejdm is now updated to the latest phpbb 3.2 software. You may notice the site is now mobile friendly but with the upgrade comes some hiccups. theGarage, theGallery, theArcade are no longer supported. In due time the developers should be working to release the modifications to work on the new software. #LetsMakeForumsGreatAgain

Other Hobbies outside of the auto scene

Post by ap_red97ek » February 07, 2012

Just curious what some of you guys are into and whats hobbies you may have outside the automotive scene. I guess the fitness thread made ne think of these since I consider it a hobby I guess.

A new hobby of mine that I recently got into was aquariums, most specifically, reef keeping. I also found it interesting but never knew enough about it. A friend of my got into and was willing to help me start and educate me on the basics.

Being that I live in an apartment I chose to go with a nano reef to start with which is actually more difficult and not recommend for beginners since just a little issue will result in big problems in such a small volume of water. But I figured what better way to start then with a challenge and I figured if I could keep a small system stable I would not have as hard of a time with a big system later.

I started with a 6gal tank taling things slow and adding a little at a time. I currently am keeping soft corals and a few LPS (Large stoney polyp) corals. I also have 2 awesome lyrics clownfish, 1 orange&white and 1 black&white, as well as a few hermit crabs, snails, and brittle starfish. Here are a few pics of my current setup up. I am working on cycling a new 20gal tank and will transfer everything once its ready. The 20gal with allow me to keep a couple more fish, corals, and I will be running an LED light fixture to allow me to keeping SPS corals and have a much more diverse and colorful system

I read, mostly military/political history.
Planning our wedding right now takes a lot of time, so it's hard to remember hobbies outside of the car, which is hard to find time for too.
Plus, I work, all the time.

cant say i ever got into the hole collecting shoes thing...unless you want to consider all the old pairs of Nike Air Max Ltd's i have haha thats really the only shoes i buy, just get them in different colors all the time

I used to fish alot back when i lived in PA. I really enjoyed trout fishing but once i moved to Ohio that changed because there arent trout stream where I am. Its funny how moving away takes away a lot of things you used to do. Sucks actually but I have been looking into finding a summer baseball league to join so i can get back into that.

I would like to make my civic road bound again so I'm hoping I can put one of my hobbies on hold this spring to head back to my automotive hobby ;)

Upholstery.

I currently am redoing a couch. I don't have the time to work on it anymore since people are asleep when I actually have time. Sewing isn't just for bitches.

when I'm not messin around with cars/trucks I'm usually spend most of my time working on and buying/selling guns... My grandfather was a gunsmith so I've been around them my whole life and when he died, the family gun business got handed down to me.
