I got the car running as you know. pulls great but leaks oil at the oil pressure sender port because it broke a nice chunk of aluminum on the block.
First mistake:I fixed it up with some JB Weld, which worked nicely and leaked very little to my surprise. However being me I don't like it when stuff leaks let alone being other than perfect.
So my neighbor has an aluminum ARC welder, figured we would give it shot. Now its a ARC stick welder and I have never heard of doing aluminum with it. So I chipped just about all the JB-Weld off to expose the bare base metal and cleaned it up really nicely. We went to work on the welding and it looked OK. Stick welding is not pretty but its the back of the block so I don't really give a crap.
So we hooked up a oil pressure tester and cranked the block over while it was on the hoist using a remote start switch (handly tool) to build oil pressure. We would get to 30PSI and it would start leaking but now its leaking really bad. I'm like WTF the JB weld did a better job LOL. Anyhow we went through this process about 4 times of grinding, cleaning, welding. All failed to seal as needed. Its Sunday, its late i said lets wrap it up for the night.
So now I have taken it to a place that does nothing but welding. Took it down there on Monday, called me Tuesday, its ready but I couldn't get there until almost closing time. No biggy because I just dropped off my oil pressure gauge set for them to use. Today, Wednesday I go down there and they said that its still leaking. WTF!!!! I'm really surprised, I know all these guys down here because they also own the local dyno thats behind the weld shop. These guys are real pro's when it comes to welding but the crack is in a shit location. So im gonna go down there, remove the intake manifold and what not to help make space for them to work on it.
Ill follow up on this later when things get finished.
Here is a couple of photos, I know it JB Weld is a GHETTO fix. But believe it or not I have seen that stuff do some amazing fixes on the outside of engine blocks.
Before you comment, yes under the main part where the break is. The paint was removed to ensure a good bond between the metal and cold weld.
